A recently released survey,  found the top 10 jobs that would be in demand this year.

Among the top 10 include managers, accountants, financial controllers, communication managers and engineers.

Caroline Ambrosini from Ambrosini Professional Placements said the job market is booming and will continue to boom well into 2008.

"Whilst we've had the usual seasonal drop off in vacancies and employment activity in December, we've seen a marked turn around in our activities in January, somewhere in the order of a 30 percent rise in temporary roles alone."

"The only thing that seems to be holding back the continued growth continues to be the serious shortage of job seekers and skills," Ambrosini said.

Ambrosini believes there will be an increase in the jobs available for administration, finance and accounting.

"We're seeing a lot of activity in all of these areas as companies are increasing their teams to cope with increasing project activity. We're also seeing an enormous need for engineering and project management staff in the market."

The survey also found the pressure on salaries would be enormous in the coming year as the shortage of skilled employees escalates.

Ambrosini said the best way for an employee to get the salary they wanted was to do research and be well prepared before any discussion. She said employees need to back their salary request with recent market rates, which is available on most recruitment websites, or Seek.com.au.

"You also need to sell yourself and your achievements, and what you can bring to the company. You need to know what the company will be expecting from you, and make it clear to them that you are more than capable of achieving this and more."

With the booming job market, Australian companies are looking for employees who will invest a number of years in their job and who will commit themselves to doing the best job possible.

"Employers are looking for people that will go the extra mile and people who are team players. Nobody wants their team to be disrupted by a new employee," Ambrosini said.

"The job market is so mobile at the moment and people move so quickly. Companies now actually expect two to three years as a staying time from new employees."

The key to getting the hottest job this year is to actually know what you want.
Ambrosini said a lot of people do not know what type of job they want or where they want to be in the next 12 months.

"You first have to assess what you want, where you're at and what you want from your career in the next few years."

Ambrosini said employees and potential employees should write themselves 12 months goals. She believes writing down goals is crucial.

"I think that if you went in knowing that sort of information you'll be way ahead of someone who doesn't know that. I would be very impressed by someone who sat in an interview and was that aware career wise of what they wanted."
